Passion of a start-up,
security of a scale-up
Want to work at an innovative tech startup - with lots of responsibility and freedom? But also value a stable basis, job security and excellent employment conditions? At Cyberfusion, you get both.
Working at Cyberfusion: in short
Basics:
- Good salary.
- Full travel allowance for public transport, car and bicycle.
- Inspiring office on the TU/e (Technical University Eindhoven) campus. Prefer hybrid working? No problem - with € 2,35 per day work-from-home allowance.
- Everything you need to do your work well. At least a MacBook. Possible other requests include: a clicky keyboard, a rubber duck, a yoga mat - some more common than others. Everything is negotiable if it helps you perform at your best.
- Flexible working hours.
- Continuous learning - thanks to work full of challenges, and with a € 1,500 per year training budget.
- € 1,500 per year choice budget - to buy extra vacation days, or to add to your training budget.
- Stay fit any way you want. With a € 50 per month vitality budget - free to spend.
- 25 vacation days (can be expanded with choice budget).
Your work:
- Fun and interesting discussions at the cutting edge. You keep your colleagues sharp by challenging their ideas, and vice versa.
- As much responsibility and freedom as you can handle - but you are never on your own. Hybrid working, flexible working hours, many side-projects at a time, or only one project at a time - whatever helps you perform at your best. While your colleagues are always there for you, and vice versa.
- Large influence on decision-making.
- Work so varied that it always stays interesting.
Step 1: short phone check-in
Before we go into depth, we schedule a 30-minute call to briefly discuss your wishes.
Have questions about matters that are important to you? Feel free to ask them.
Both still enthusiastic? We will schedule an extensive introduction.
Step 2: extensive introduction
We would like to get to know know everything about you. And that is mutual: you also get plenty of space to ask us questions. In particular, we address 3 main questions:
What do you find important in your next job, and why?
To what extent does your mentality match ours, and how does this show? In fact, we expect you to thoroughly investigate whether we are a good fit for you.
Can you give us an indication of your knowledge level? You may show code to support this.
What is your personality type? We ask you to complete the 16Personalities test, and share the results with us. There is no right or wrong: the test is purely meant to get an even better picture.
Both still positive? Then we move on to the technical part.
Step 3: customised technical test
Depending on the previous assessment of your knowledge level, we create a short, tailor-made technical test. The test is an assignment that you work on for 1,5 to 2 hours. Halfway, we check in on you, so that you can share how far you came, as well as your thought process.
Understanding your thought process is what it's all about: we want to know how you approach complex problems. Finishing the assignment is a bonus, but not the goal. After all: skills can be taught, but mentality is ingrained.
Step 4: offer
If we're enthousiastic, we make you an offer by phone. You then receive this offer by email so you can think about it.
Step 5: sign contract
Also enthousiastic? We invite you to our office to sign the contract. We'll make something fun out of this occasion.
Location
We prefer doing steps 2 and 3 at our office.
Not possible? Then we switch to a video call using Jitsi.
Time
The entire process can be fast - depending on your availability.
Only the final offer may take slightly longer. But even that is done in 3 working days at most.
Response time after applying
We respond quickly: no later than the working day after your application, or earlier if possible.
Not a match? We apply a simple principle: 'the more effort you put into the application, the more effort we put into giving you feedback'. For example: if you don't speak Dutch while a vacancy states that as a requirement, we won't necessarily reply. But if you wrote an extensive, tailor-made motivation for a role at Cyberfusion, we invest in an extensive response.
Response time during process
Once we've spoken by phone (step 1), we call you - whether or not we move forward - with feedback. We do this within two working days. Except for step 4, which takes a maximum of three working days.
Quality. More than enough evidence: for example, when we imposed a 6-month feature freeze to get several processes in order. It means standing still in terms of features, but in the long run, everyone benefits. A choice that not every company would make.
Determined. We commit ourselves to challenges for as long as necessary. Working longer if needed, doing more research - we do whatever it takes.
Reliable. We do what we say - no exceptions. Whether it's in contact with customers or colleagues. The reason is simple: our customers fully depend on us. From guaranteed support response times to the internal rule "if it's not written down, it wasn't said". What we do requires a strict and clear way of working and communicating.
Crystal-clear. Mutual expectations are crystal-clear. This is where our Dutch origins pop up: always asking for clarification and no sugarcoating means no chance at miscommunication.
You get as much freedom as you can handle.
First: hybrid working. You may work wherever you want - as long as your performance stays at the right level. One condition: whenever your colleagues and you decide it's most convenient to be in the office, you're there, just like your colleagues.
Second: flexible working hours. We understand better than anyone that different people have different rhythms (for example, William - a night owl - regularly works at 2:00 AM, while Dick - one of our PHP developers, and a morning person - starts at 6:00 AM). Everyone at Cyberfusion determines their own working hours, as long as they overlap with our company-wide 'core hours': fixed times during the day at which everyone is available.
Last but not least: you have a major say in what you work on. Goals are determined together with your colleagues. Have a good idea that's not yet on the roadmap, and adds value? Add it. Only thing that always comes first are incidents. We assume that's obvious to you. Just like you understand that your work is not always fun, and that sometimes things just have to be done.
We review all of each other's work. Well-defined processes are in place - from publishing a vacancy to creating VMs. All projects are organised centrally and clearly (read more under "Is there a methodology in place?").
We're in the process of getting ISO-certified.
We don't yet use a well-defined methodology (such as Scrum). With our team size of 8 people, it hasn't been needed yet.
We do however work efficiently, centrally and clearly. All projects and to-do's are maintained in OpenProject and GitLab.
At least daily, we inform each other about what we're doing.
Every week, we set goals - giving everyone something to hold on to.
As the team grows, we expect to start working according to an agile methodology such as Scrum or Kanban.
We are a remote team of 8 people based in the Netherlands: from a UX designer to a communications professional, and many developers.
For most roles, we are looking for people who work in a hybrid fashion. Unless they themselves prefer working at the office every day.
Want to know exactly who your colleagues will be? Look at the 'About' page.
William is a young yet experienced mentor. On a daily basis, he sees you as an equal. He expects you to keep him sharp by critically examining his ideas. Even if you are less experienced. He believes in that way of cooperation.
William is an engineer, but not the typical type - always keeping the big picture in mind. He does everything with unrivalled passion, and expects you to do the same.
As people at Cyberfusion get as much freedom and responsibility as they can handle, his expectations are crystal-clear.
No, as long as you appear professional. No need to wear a suit and tie, but leave your onesie at home.
Yes.
We regularly eat out in the Eindhoven city centre. Our successes are usually celebrated together with city trips.
Ideas for more exuberant team outings? Always welcome.
If you need a large group of colleagues, now is not the time. Keep an eye on us, though, because our team will grow.
If you need to be taken by the hand a lot, then Cyberfusion is not the place for you. While your colleagues are always here for you, we communicate a lot, and ask a lot of questions - you must be able to work mostly independently.
Have difficulty structuring your work? We are happy to help you on your way. But if you continue to have difficulty with this, Cyberfusion is not your ideal workplace.
You must enjoy continuously working on a variety of new challenges. If you find this difficult and prefer to work with what you already know, Cyberfusion will not suit you.
You can work wherever you want - as long as your performance stays at the right level.
But there is one condition: whenever your colleagues and you decide it's most convenient to be in the office, you're there, just like them.
Also, as you start out at Cyberfusion, it's useful to be at the office more often.
6.
Calculation: € 1,500 (choice budget per year) / € 250 (every vacation day's value).
Yes, if you want one.
Yes.
First: you get lots of direct feedback (both positive and constructive) on-the-job.
Second: we periodically discuss your development and feedback at a higher level. How often depends on your own preference (for example once a month, or once every three months).
Last but not least: while you continuously learn on-the-job, you may want more. Your annual training budget of at least € 1,500 can be spent freely - as long as it helps you do your work even better. Whether you want to work on specific soft skills, or on professional skills - the ball is in your court. Although suggestions may be made sometimes. Need help determining how to best use your training budget? Just ask.
Sometimes, the annual training budget is not sufficient for what you want to do. In that case, you can tap into your choice budget (see vacancy).
However you would like to develop yourself: personal development falls within working hours.
Possibly. Agreements can be made at your request.
Our goal: build an all-in-one platform on which web professionals host, monitor, secure and optimise all their websites and applications - and be the largest in Europe at that.
To realise that ambition, we expect to expand with multiple bright minds in the coming year. If our strategy is successful, our team will grow even faster.
However practice turns out to be: while we're extremely ambitious, we will always choose sustainable growth. After all, there's no point in growing if you're not proud of what you built, or have to redo things because they were rushed before. For example, we always eliminate 'tech debt' before building new features. Our track record proves this.
Finally, we promise that you can continue to do what you want. Whether that means focusing completely on execution, or, for example, training and guiding colleagues as well.
William founded Cyberfusion in his teens. Entrepreneurship is in his blood. How successful Cyberfusion has become in a short time goes to show so. He has also gained much professional experience - working at some of the largest hosting companies at a young age.
William belongs to the group of entrepreneurs who invest in the long term. For example, he only embarks on new adventures - such as new features and expanding the team - when the house is in order. Therefore, there is little 'technical debt' to be found at Cyberfusion. Something that is not self-evident in every startup. For example, in the past, he postponed building new features for 3 months to automate processes that had -unconsciously- become too complex.
Thanks to this long-term vision, Cyberfusion can grow without compromising anything.
Your first day is at the office. We set a time for you to be there.
During this day, you set up your workstation, and Cyberfusion's systems are explained.
Once you're set up, we go through the role-specific onboarding. It describes what you're going to work on in general, and where to start.
Before you start, you receive an extensive email with more information.
During this month, we hope that you show a match with Cyberfusion's core values and mentality.
Shown that you're thorough, reliable, and learn quickly? Then you will have gotten through the first month smoothly.
